This article introduces a new twist to the KWL by adding a new element of "H" or "how do I find out?". This is an excellent launching point to begin introducing young learners to inquiry based learning by teaching students in think about how they will investigate. This article is written for an elementary level classroom, but this method could be adapted to be used at higher grade levels.

This article suggests putting the learning of science before the learning of vocabulary. It also explains that a KWL chart before the activity can be modified to a KWHL after the exploration activities. This is a way to make learning more positive. Students are given experiences that they can build on. This is not a new idea but an important one that should be reinforces and emphasized with all teachers both veteran and new.
