This is one of those lessons that seemed so simple -- too simple -- until kids start to wrap their heads around it. I had an impressive 40 minutes with intensive learning with the phases of matter. Asking kids if their binders were frozen led to fascinating discussions.

I feel so silly I didn't think of using this visual reference tool - although I had my classes make a chart showing how water, ethanol, oxygen and iron had different temperatures at which they were solids, liquids, and gases I never thought of using a visual like the one presented here. This would be a great addition for a student notebook activity.
