I think this an excellent article. This article mentions that crayfish are easy to keep. Thus crayfish would be an exciting and great addition to the classroom. Using crayfish would be an excellent way to teach students about animal habitats, adaptations, life cycles and even higher order thinking. The students in the article really seemed to enjoy learning about the crayfish through observation. So this would create an unforgettable experience for the students in the classroom. I also think this is a great hands on activity that would be perfect with Interactive Science Notebooks. The students could document their drawings, research and concept maps in their ISNs. The students could even take pictures of the different phases of the crayfish life cycle and place them in their Interactive Science Notebooks.

This is a great match for the FOSS kit we use with our 3rd grades to teach about living structures. The kids love having the crayfish in our classroom.
