This is a great inquiry lab for a high school chemistry classroom because it addresses a real world problem. Students need a little background knowledge to perform the lab. Once the lab is completed, they can learn much about cross-linking, chemical bonding, and polymers from the results of this lab. I especially enjoyed the web links included in this article. I also appreciated the list of possible metallic salts that could be used in this lab and the grading rubric provided on NSTA connections.
