The authors describe a project where students take pictures of their environment that show human impacts. They recommend using disposable cameras to prevent student alterations to the photos, but this can be prohibitively expensive. If I was to do this, I would probably allow students to take pictures using their cell phones if they wished, since they all seem to have them and do not know how to alter Those photos (yet!). It is an interesting project that makes students look for and reflect the amount of human's influence on things around them. It might be an interesting alternative assignment in some places for students to look for areas without human impact as well. This would be a valuable inclusion for an environmental unit at any grade level as it addresses students who sometimes feel left out of science, those with a more artistic side.
