Science as a Second Language

by: Carmen Simich-Dudgeon and Joy Egbert

High school and middle school science teachers should include English language learners (ELLs) in interactive science learning, thereby increasing the opportunities for these students to learn science. Supporting contexts that are familiar to them and tying science knowledge firmly to the students’ lives provides opportunities for all students to improve their science literacy.
