This article discusses the ethics and responsibility of scientists who teach to discuss the possibilities of natural and man-made disasters with our students and to provide them with some background on how to prepare and how to encourage their governments to prepare. While college instructors may not recognize secondary teachers as scientists, this topic is also applicable to them, as they will teach many more students in science than college instructors will ever see. We all, from secondary up, have a responsibility to encourage our students to know about dangers and to take action to provide some safety for themselves and loved ones.
