I enjoyed this article because it gave a great look at how to apply the 5E/3D Learning Model in your classroom. Sometimes it can be misunderstood how to apply this type of learning to a lesson, but this article does a great job modeling that. I also liked the use of a variety of tools within the lesson. Students need to become familiar with different science tools no matter what age they are and this article does a great job showing the use of different tools.

This is a great article that gives information regarding a lesson for elementary aged students on flowers. This is a great lesson as it incorporated English Languages Arts development. I also really appreciated that this lesson included the 5 E’s. This lesson is also very interesting and fun as it also provides a great technological element to it as students work with a digital microscope. The digital microscope is a good option as it allows the class to look at the images together. According to the article it also provides the class with the ability to be able to copy images and place on a word processor for easy labeling. According to the article there are a lot of options for affordable digital microscopes. In addition to providing various resources to find a digital microscope this article provides a very detailed lesson using the 5 E’s and the importance of each step. The article even provides examples of books you may want to read to the students to start the unit and get the students engaged and interested in learning about flowers and how they grow.

Learning about flowers is a fun activity in any classroom but using a digital microscope makes it even better. This 5E lesson plan lets students explore form and function of parts of flowers to better understand these beautiful and necessary plant parts. Starting with some trade book readings to introduce the topic and ending with a comparison of several different kinds of flowers students and teachers learn that technology can be an integral part of any learning experience.

This journal article presents a fantastic 5E lesson plan where 4th graders use digital microscopes to investigate flowers. I have used digiscopes in my classroom and find they are much easier to use than the optical microscopes. A useful feature, discussed in this article, is the ability to display the images on a computer or LCD screen. This allows group discussion on the microscopic images and allows the instructor to help students with understanding what they are viewing. This lesson could be adapted for middle school as well.
