Curbside recycling of solid waste has increased in many communities across America. This article takes an historical approach to understanding why the statement in the first sentence is true. As one reads further into the article one learns about how these materials are recycled, what cost is incurred, and what primarily is recycled – aluminum cans, glass, paper products, and various plastics. The goal of the article is to encourage students to raise student awareness of the need for recycling.

One issue not addressed is trash and garbage shipped overseas to third world countries, but overall, this does address the major recycling types and issues.
