In a lesson about bacteria transformation students use online videos that are free and provide basic current info about a topic. Other videos are classified as ‘how to’s’ which provide instruction about lab procedures and/or using equipment. Included in this article about the bacterial transformation lab and how multimedia can be incorporated there is a rubric for this transformation video lab. In the ‘on the web’ segment of the article the actual resources are provided to replicate this activity for high school students.

While the activity presented - a 10th grade lesson - is above the level of my students (middle grades), the examples provided on how to incorporate technology into teaching are appropriated for almost any grade level. The inclusion of technology in lesson planning is supported by research provided within the article. Even the challenges were noted, and this could be beneficial in future planning. This article provides a great jumping off point for bringing teaching into the 21st century through technology.
