This article was a wonderful resource when planning a science lesson for third graders! This article demonstrated how it is important for the students to not start out with the misconception that color and size is a good property of rocks- which it is not. This is a great article that gives a good example of a lesson and how to get students to start thinking about the properties of rocks.

This article gives detailed descriptions of exploring rocks with children. It is an easy read, and flows very well. I really enjoyed the pictures, especially the picture of student's data sheet on the information he collected about his rock. There are different lessons to do with multiple different age groups of students, and there are a lot of examples that help to apply the examples into a classroom setting.
