Using craft sticks and other easy-to-find materials, this kindergarten teacher helped her students compare the features of 4 different kinds of bats. Since they have a lot of colorful photos, the students were also introduced to field guides to help them identify their particular bat. Students made models of their bats and then wrote about them using the field guides to learn where their bats lived and what they ate. The article includes photos of some of the students’ work. Also a rubric and 5E lesson plan can be downloaded from the URL provided.
