I thought this was an excellent article on how to teach kindergartens about worms. It covers the 5e's and brings nature into the classroom. My favourite is the gummy worm activity. I was told of a kindergarten class that did vermicomposting and the students loved showing off their worms and giving them yummy food like banana peels. The teacher eventually had to to make a "feeding plan" so the worms weren't overfeed.

The activities described in this article follow the 5E cycle and will involve your students in observing and earthworm and comparing it to a gummy worm. In the process, many misconceptions to distinguishing living from non-living objects will be uncovered and addressed. The authors also explain how to construct a worm bin for your classroom which can be used for extensions to this activity.The authors did not address the importance of keeping children with allergies to mold away from the worm bin.
