I thought this article was really insightful and contained lots of good information! Throughout the article, there was a break down of the 3 different types of professional development that has been offered to teachers. It also contained pros and cons for these PD's. I feel that this article could be suited for administrators so they can make professional development meaningful to the teachers in their school districts.

I believe this article would be beneficial for teachers because it explains 3 types of PDs and what teachers need to know about them. For example, the first one is what the author calls the “Whiz Bang Cool PD.” The author explains that these PDs are generally not useful because they do not help teachers learn the actual content knowledge. Instead, this type of PD mainly only shows science experiments without actually explaining the concepts in-depth. The next type of PD is called “curriculum adoption” which helps teachers go beyond learning what is just required to teach the curriculum. The author explains that if teachers learn more than what is required of them, they can be prepared for more advanced questions by students and will be able to answer them and tie them back into the lesson effectively The last type of PD is one that helps teachers understand science concepts versus just memorizing them. He said that it was common for teachers in his advanced workshops to not understand basic concepts because they learned the information as opposed to learning how to apply them. This journal article earns a rating of 4 out of 5 stars from me because it only mentions PDs that are on the NSTA website.
