This article introduces an interdisciplinary environmental health investigation for middle school students. Students engaged in a month long investigation by students to determine why some of the townspeople were getting sick. This investigation culminates in a mock town-hall meeting. All aspects of this activity are presented in the article from set-up, to student roles, and sequence of steps. This mystery would have great student appeal and would be perfect for eight grade students.

People in a town are getting sick and students in this 8th grade science classroom were going to spend the next month finding out why. The students analyze water data and heath data and then determine what is making the townspeople sick. They then attend a mock community council to present their conclusions. This article contains all that is needed to recreate this activity from beginning to end. The article also provides the reader with assessments and conclusions.
