I must admit, I taught these five principles at some point in my meteorology unit, but what we were learning probably would have made more sense if we could have kept referring back to these concepts. There are also additional demonstrations that could work (like the penny on the pop-bottle for hot air rises, for example, and making clouds in bottles would surely help with the air pressure/temperature demo)/ If you cannot afford a vacuum pump, you could ask a doctor or health center for a large syringe with a cap (instead of needle!). Place a mini-marshmallow inside with the cap off and insert the plunger to touch the marshmallow. Put the cap on and pull out on the plunger and voila - small vaccum chamber!

This short activity lists the five guiding principle of meteorology and includes one simple observation or demonstration that supports that particular principle. For example, smoke always rises from a chimney illustrates that hot air rises. One demonstration requires a vacuum chamber but can also be done with a simple hand pump to keep carbonation in soft drinks. This would be a good way to introduce meteorology.
