Even an article over a decade old can provide useful information for today’s tech savvy teachers. For those of us teaching in the early 2000s, reading this article brings back fond (and not so fond) memories of how our classrooms technologically evolved. Some of the warnings given by this author still hold true today. Plus, the article shares ways to involve technology in an educationally sound manner that enhances learning over merely entertaining the learner. Take a decade-step back in time to see how far you have come!

The technology plays an imperative role in classroom nowadays, which will enrich students’ learning and enhance the curriculum. This article mainly talks about three areas-researching, creating, and publishing, that are applied into elementary science class (Stephen W., 2000).
Except for the traditional resources, the high-tech information sources should be approached in the classroom. Students should be provided with a variety of resources to search for information. Searching on the web will offer students accesses to images, videos, articles, and related websites that students may want to learn and collect. However, there are dangers existing on the web, which requires teachers’ extra consideration. A primary consideration is the accuracy of the information, and information overload is another consideration as students do research. The researching process will be better within teachers’ instruction. Computer technology enable students to create science-based products, such as using graphics or paint program to illustrate a concept, telecommunication via emailing to companies and digital camera, PowerPoint presentations and so on (Stephen W., 2000). “One of the most exciting applications of technology is using a computer as a publishing tool” (Stephen W., 2000). Students will be more excited and take more pride in themselves when their accomplishments and products are published on the net. The author mentioned an online classroom newsletter that is my favorite section, which is a platform where it runs students articles, completed projects, curriculum units, special events, etc.(Stephen W., 2000).The online newsletter is also a way to share helpful information with others, and students’ families can be informed of what their kids are doing and learning, as well as everything about their school life.
