Argumentation in science is a key practice, as evidenced by it's inclusion as a "Key Practice" in the K-12 Science Frameworks. This article gives two methods of supporting the development of argumentation, the use of graphs, and a framework (claim-evidence-reasoning) to help students understand the relationships between variables. The article is just an overview of the two activities and teachers will need to develop plans to help scaffold these skills so that students can be successful.
