The two trade books included in this article describe nature but focus on the environment. Both are story based where a character in one creates a unique environment of one kind of plant and the other the other explores how individuals can change their actions to protect the environment. The first of the two activities asks students to look at what objects are made of. This is for grades K-3 grades. The second activity for grades 4-6 grade is called “Pasta Mining.” This activity allows students to simulate how natural resources are depleted. Both look fun and address the topic described.
