Standards developed by the National Research Council focus on science literacy for all students. This means we must create inclusive learning environments where all students can learn and develop inquiry skills. In order to accomplish this, the authors describe five strategies which can be used to address the needs of students with learning disabilities. 1- A multisensory approach maximizes the learning of students with language and behavioral disabilities. 2- Encourage collaboration and mastering of scientific concepts among learners. 3- Provide authentic assessment and expectations for each individual learners. 4- Students can develop scientific knowledge over time through repeated exposure to and integration of a particular scientific concept. 5- Create a learning environment that is nurturing and supportive for all students.
