Even though this article is dated, published in 1998, I found the story within profoundly refreshing. In travels to the Middle East, the author discusses the fear of technology in developing countries - fear in relation to government control and fear of mass control of the openess technology can provide. Even more eye opening was the author's discussion on the unfounded fear they felt as Americans in the Middle East during a time of political unrest. This article offers insight into the outlook of technology for developing countries while providing a social studies lesson on prejudice and fear between cultures. Highly recommended!

This article documents a visit to the Arab world to conduct faculty workshops on using computers to teach physics. The presenters demonstrated the use of physics programs. The article is a reflection on this workshop and the visits to Arab countries that want to expand their use technology but are fearful of that technology as well. This is a definitely an interesting article to read.
