Tech Trek: Getting students charged up about batteries

The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation’s (RBRC) lesson plan entitled Charge Up to Recycle! is a nonprofit organization that recycles Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) rechargeable batteries in Canada and the United States. Recommended for grades three through six, Charge Up to Recycle! uses batteries as the basis for lessons covering subject areas such as science, math, history, and language arts. This article describes how the authors used this program to augment their existing science and technology curriculum as well as the energy conservation strand.
