Science Sampler: Planetary real estate

by: Lisa Chillot

In the Planetary Real Estate Sales Activity, students pretend they are the new owners of one of the planets in the solar system challenged with the task of developing and selling it to make a profit. By having students “sell” an assigned planet through an oral presentation and visual component, students are required to research and synthesize information about a specific planet. What makes this project different from most research projects is the emphasis on the creative aspect. Most students do not view science as a creative endeavor. One of the goals of this project is to emphasize that knowledge of facts alone is useless; it is how one uses knowledge that is truly important.
