Diabetes has become a major concern as the American population grows fatter and fatter. The distribution chart in this article shows that the population of Native Americans, in particular Alaska Natives, far surpasses other ethnic populations. The article describes a program aimed at that specific population designed to educate students about the Type 2 epidemic. Forty lessons were designed with that specific cultural sensitivity and used in the schools to foster the understanding of diabetes cause and effects as well as an action plan for wellness.
