In an effort to adding inquiry to standard cook book labs the author of this article introduces a different approach to two traditional high school biology cook book labs. Her new approach involves a teacher demonstration followed by a student exploration. Two examples are provided. The author acknowledges that this might not provide for total inquiry and it may not work for all labs but these examples provide more student application of knowledge of experimental design as well as more autonomy in their experiences.
