The interesting thing about this article is how teachers collaborated with other teachers, a researcher and a software engineer to interpret the science standards and identify grade-level goals for their students. The authors present an exciting use of technology with student hand-held computers. It’s exciting to read how these teachers and researchers developed three software programs—Boomerang, Sketchy and /Data Doers-- for students to use that identify and build on students’ prior knowledge and foster formative assessment for a deeper understanding.
