This article is a condensed form of the online document about safety from the NSTA Science Safety Advisory Board. The article addresses use of personal protective equipment for eye and appropriate dress in lab. There are so many facets to teaching science safely. The NSTA’s Science Safety Advisory Board has put together an online resource that makes it easier for teachers to find relevant information on this important topic. The information is divided up into five sections. The first section discusses rules and regulations that teachers must follow in order to keep students (and themselves) safe. The second section provides a list of behavioral expectations that should be in place for students. The third section provides specific safety precautions involving the use of chemicals and lab equipment. The fourth section addresses behaviors that students are expected to follow in order to secure and maintain a safe laboratory environment in which to teach and learn. In the final section, a statement acknowledging the dangers inherent in teaching science in and outside of the classroom is provided.
