I found the article on the solar system update to be very helpful. It not only discusses Pluto and explore the planet Pluto, it allows us to label it be reiterating the meaning of a planet. I think the article is also a good source for not only the teachers but for the class to read as a whole and maybe do an assignment such as, do you think Pluto is a planet?

I thought this journal article is a good resource for kids who want to learn more about the solar system. They are able to get an update on the solar system and compare and contrast how our solar system was like many years ago from now. They are also able to take in information on Pluto and find out why it is not considered a planet anymore. This journal article will help answer questions that students had on how our solar system changed over the years.

This article is a good example of how scientists ask questions to better develop understanding. Scientists re-ask questions in science and feel it is necessary and appropriate to make changes to predictions and sometimes classifications. As new technology and better science has come along, it is possible to reevaluate the solar system. This resource is helpful and interesting although was published 4 years ago. In my work with students I have recently noticed two things; students are interested in Pluto’s exclusion from planetary status, and they want to know why it happened. This journal article is a solar system update. It explains that the solar system changes with a comparison of what the solar system was thought to consist of in 1979 and what it was like in 1999. It debates the definition of a planet with regards to Pluto, Sedna, and Quaoar, and explains population classification as a possibility for more accurate planet definition.

Pluto Explanation

This is a good resource for explaning why Pluto is not considered a planet. However, I would like to see a more in depth explanation and a link to any updated infomation.
