I really enjoyed this article because it broke down a great topic throughout a whole week, and it also has many different activities for different grade levels. I learned how to use journals in different ways rather than only reflections which is what I am accustomed to using interactive journals for. In this article the author used the journals as investigation journals. This allows students to document each day by writing not only conclusions, but future questions, drawing with labels, and so on. Not only did the author find different ways to use a journal in a science class but he gives a great description on how to explain to your students how to organize their journal. In the article the author recommends for the teachers to allow the upper elementary students to create a plant brochure which is a great way to integrate language arts into science and a great TEK for fifth graders is 5.12.B. This TEK allows students to compose an informational text about one topic, in this case it would be about either one planet or the whole solar system. I believe it would be up to the teacher themselves. Another great TEK would be 1.8.B. because it focuses on students to record and observe the changes of the moon, and an idea that the author gave for the lower grades is allowing students to observe the moon and record what it looks like on a calendar. This will be great for when it is time to introduce moon phases. I agree with the idea of expanding the topic earth, sun, and moon throughout a whole week for any grade, just because it is a lot of information to take in and if students had a week to just focus on this topic they will be able to master this topic.

Earth and Space collection: A Week for Space I chose to put this article in my collection because it presents space science lessons grouped in clusters for grades K–4 and grades 5–8, which align with the National Science. I learned about how teachers can model the tilt and the seasons so students can get a visual of the lesson. The teacher can begin the lesson by asking, how does the Earth’s tilt affect the strength of the sunlight on the Earth? To begin, the teacher shows students a setup with an inflated balloon (a kickball or globe would also work), a cup, and a flashlight. Mark where the equator is. Then mark a spot close to where your students live. TEK §112.15. Science, Grade 4, Adopted 2017. (8) Earth and space. The student knows that there are recognizable patterns in the natural world and among the Sun, Earth, and Moon system. The student is expected to: (A) measure, record, and predict changes in weather; (B) describe and illustrate the continuous movement of water above and on the surface of Earth through the water cycle and explain the role of the Sun as a major source of energy in this process; and (C) collect and analyze data to identify sequences and predict patterns of change in shadows, seasons, and the observable appearance of the Moon over time. I agree with the article because the information is beneficial for teaching grades K-8th.

I chose this article because it separated the material into sections of grades K-4 and then grades 5-8. Therefore teachers of the younger grades don't have to shuffle through a lot of information that does not apply to them and vice versa. I learned about the website enchantedlearning.com. It is a resource that helps student visualize all things space and galaxies. (8) Earth and space. The student knows that the natural world includes the air around us and objects in the sky. The student is expected to: (B) observe and record changes in the appearance of objects in the sky such as the Moon and stars, including the Sun; I don’t disagree with anything in this article. I did see how important charts are for children's learning process. This article recommended that teachers use a KWHL chart in order to better understand the milky way galaxy.

I chose this article to be in my collection because space is a topic that really interests me, and I hope to spread that passion for my future students. I have always been interested In different ideas to incorporate space as a lesson, and feel this article gives sufficient ideas to do so. New information that I learned was different activities that can be used for certain grade levels, and how to make outer connections to expand the lesson that will touch many topic areas. The TEKS I would use to go along with the article relates to second grade, 2.8C. This directly relates with learning about objects we see in the sky, and their purpose. I can use this information in a classroom by first introducing the moon and planets, and extending the lesson into stars. Based on my experience, I have questions of how to do checks for understanding. This article went over it a little, but it would be nice to find more creative ways to assess and check for understanding when covering the topic of space.

I really liked this article and how it had everything laid out for you to be able to teach about this material for a week. I liked how it showed you different activities to do with your students, but it also gave you different age groups to do the activities with. I learned through this assessment how you can extend your lesson in fun ways. They had interactive journals and they showed you how to make them new and interesting throughout the week, and it also showed you how you can have an extended spacewalk so you can extend your lesson in a fun way. I think that the TEKS 3.7 and 3.8 would go great with this lesson and work well with this age group. I agree with all the different ideas and how this lesson should be taught for a week because there is so much information about space that you can talk about and walk your students through.

I am always looking for lessons that can last and be expanded for a period of time, so I was very happy when I read it and saw all of the information I could give my students in a week long lesson about all things space related. - I learned different ways of assessments for lessons like these is through an interactive journal. This got me thinking of ways I could use an interactive journal for assessing all types of lessons that are longer than 1 day. - 3.7 and 3.8 would be good TEKS to use for this lesson. There are so many different aspects of this lesson that it can cover so many different topics my students need to learn. The sun, moon, Galaxy’s, differed planets, research, and seasons. - I agree with all of the different ideas that educators should connect in this week long lesson. Earth and space have so many different aspects and I think it’s important to connect them in a way for students to learn it interconnected.

As the title expresses, this article introduced the content that can be taught in a week for Grades K-4 and grades 5-8. For grades K-4, the main objects basically cover the objects in the sky, students will study the heat source, the Sun, through outdoor activity and some great hands-on activities; they will then learn about the moon and the galactic composition through electronic methods, such as digital and dynamic model of the solar system on the computer. For grads 5-8, students will be a part of planetary publishing, which is a highly entertaining activity design which requires they will then study the tilt and the seasons of Earth. At last, students will design their own vehicles to travel on Mars, so that students will be able to know some key features of Mars.

This article presents a week of lesson plan ideas for grades K-8 on space science. Each lesson could easily be adapted for a higher or lower grade level. There is a wealth of lesson plan ideas, and ideas on how to move students from concrete observations to higher level concept understanding. Many of the lessons also address the need to increase students’ writing skills and incorporate a strong writing component into the lesson.
