In an effort to bring astronomy to the public, National Astronomy Day was established in the 1970’s. This article describes a middle school’s attempt to introduce astronomy, during the day, to the public by having 24 different stations explore the sun, the moon and the planets. A chart provides the station name, an internet resource for that activity at that station, maximum number of participants and typical time for each activity. Most of the stations are documented with photos in this article. This event could be recreated at any school and would make an excellent parent student informal science event.

This is an excellent article that explains, in detail, how to plan and execute an Astronomy night. For the event, the authors set-up several different stations, each with an Astronomy theme. In addition to discussing the materials needed for each station, the authors included information about the maximum number of people each station could accommodate and how long each station takes to complete. This is an excellent planning guide for putting together an astronomy night. I cannot wait to try this out soon!
