A study of gray wolf populations in Wisconsin sparks inquiry in the biology classroom. Students evaluated variables that would affect the wolves, and developed one graph and a defense statement that the students agreed was a good prediction of what the population would look like over the next 18 years. Through this experience the students became active learners and were part of an authentic scientific study.
