Students visited a local aquarium to perform hands-on activities and understand how marine scientists learn about the ocean. The students focused on the ocean floor, adaptations of marine organisms, diverse ocean environments, waves, currents, and beaches. On beach trips students made observations of ocean life measured the width of the beach, and used a sieve to analyze beach sand. Students took a trip to Catalina Island to answer the questions they generated from previous activities. The project culminated in a poster conference where students presented what they learned. This is a great way for students to understand the nature of science.
