1. I chose this article because when I was in school, no teacher took the time to talk about Earth Day, let alone have us do a whole project over it. We were hardly ever involved in our community and it was all textbook. I personally believe that students will truly enjoy this project and will be a great reminder to school not only revolving around textbooks and notes. 2. This project is done by multiple people and it is INTERNET- BASED! How awesome is that? This project can not only be used for science as it is possible to tie it to any other subject such as Fine Arts. Also, it all started in 1998! So there’s been many people doing this project to vouch for it. 3. TEKS: 2.1.B The student is expected to: identify and demonstrate how to use, conserve, and dispose of natural resources and materials such as conserving water and reuse or recycling of paper, plastic, and metal. As students are expected to identify and demonstrate how to use, conserve, and dispose of every day materials they’ll be given the opportunity to get their community involved by taking home paper grocery bags for each child in the household for them to decorate. These bags will go back to the grocery store and along with it a personalized thank you note from the child (anonymous). I believe this will make a big impact on them as they’ll get the feeling of making a change. 4. I wonder if there could be other materials around our everyday life that could be included in this project. If so, what could those be?

Students in elementary schools decorated paper grocery bags from local merchants with messages about the environment. Started many years ago, the project blossomed into many school districts when it was announced on the Internet. The article is over 10 years old now and many grocery stores are not using paper anymore but the idea behind the project and the outcome might be a way to initiate a new idea for future projects.
