Being an inventor is a very broad statement. But he isn’t just an ordinary inventor. He invented the Segway and is the founder of FIRST which is a program called “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. This is a nonprofit that runs robotic competitions that encourages students to get involved with science and technology. He holds numerous patents both in the USA and abroad especially for medical devices. This unique individual is well worth reading about.

This is a quick interview with Dean Kamen, inventor of the Segway and FIRST robotics. He never finished university, but has over 40 patents! He is very much an individualist. Having personally heard him speak, I find him to be an interesting model for students who encourages them to pursue their own interests.
