This article shows how a student’s carving creativity can be used to increase scientific knowledge by making a potato stamp that acts as a connector of science concepts. When finished, this author’s students provided a visual representation of their understandings of the topic. The article provides a student sample from a unit on stars. The teacher used a rubric to assess his students’ understandings; the rubric was discussed but not included in the article. This sounds like an excellent way to engage some students. Creating concept maps will help them organize their thoughts and learning. The article includes detailed instructions for creating potato stamps.
