This article ties directly into my curriculum. I am excited to give students an opportunity to tap into their artistic side. This is a culminating project and a learning tool. I especially like the idea of being able to collaborate with the art teacher. We, too often, don't have as many opportunities to incorporate specialist into our lessons.

This article describes a three-day curriculum where students study phytoplankton and their importance to the ocean's energy pyramid. This curriculum is aimed at 5th grade students. The first day is a combination of discussion and a tutorial on using a microscope. The second day students use the microscopes to investigate samples of phytoplankton. The third day students create a unique phytoplankton drawing by applying what they have learned about the adaptations of phytoplankton.
