Judging Projects: Suggesting Improvements

by: John Haysom

This chapter focuses on “suggesting improvements.” When a scientist sends a report of an investigation to a journal for publication, the editor consults experts on whether the investigation was done well and if the findings are valuable. The experts look at the investigation very carefully, consider the way the experiments are designed, and try to determine if the findings can be trusted. A reply is then sent to the scientist and often includes comments on how the investigation could be improved and how the report was written. An actual report of a science project is included in the chapter so that students can make suggestions for improvement.
