This article is about an instructional technology change, called the ‘Substitution Augmentation Modification Redefinition’ model (SAMR) which offers a way to anticipate how a technology might affect teaching and learning. As pointed out in this article NSTA’s can published what is called enhanced E-books, which are available through Apple’s iBooks interface. These make learning more dynamic by offering video, audios and simulations that go along with the test. We as educators need to address student
learning, to better engage these learners in way that is more natural to them.

This short article is an excellent overview of the potential of interactive digital etexts for enhancing student learning and of the pitfalls associated with etext integration. The SAMR model for technology integration is discussed in the context of etext adoption (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification Redefinition). Of particular interest it the potential to "future-proof" etexts with digital updates.
