Due to the globalization of world economics, advances in information technologies, and the complex interconnections of global environmental issues, postsecondary institutions recognize the growing importance of offering courses about other cultures and nations (Adams 1992; Fidanza, Sanford, and Shibley 2004). However, most undergraduate courses that address cultural diversity are located in the liberal arts curriculum. This chapter describes an introductory course in the plant sciences, illustrating how science can be combined with the study of intercultural and international diversity.
