Models of Atomic Structure and Thomson's Experimental Model

Students started the lesson with an activity to evaluate the usefulness and limits of indirect evidence. Students use two simulations of Thomson’s Cathode-Ray Tube experiments. After exploring these simulations and discussing the relationships shown in the simulations, students use the evidence from the simulations to inform revisions to their models of atomic structure. The students discuss their revised models and how they connect to various phenomena students observed. Observe student discussions in the associated video.
