Archive: Science Update: Mapping Ozone Pollution Using Satellites and Plants, June 10, 2021

Did you know that ground-level ozone, a harmful air pollutant, is a problem in the US? Ground-level -or “bad” - ozone is toxic to plants and animals – including humans. This invisible pollutant causes lung irritation, harms forests, and reduces crop yields.

Below are comments from individuals who attended the seminar:

  • "Great information, love the connection between fields of science and how satellites are helping us to monitor what is happening on the ground"
  • "I found it both very interesting and shocking how severe the effects of ozone are in our local communities in the US, even in the area I live."
  • "I loved it! I especially was intrigued by the information regarding the visible evidence of ozone damage on vegetation. I hope to use the information to lead research in my classroom one day!"

A certificate of attendance was deposited into participants' account page for completing the evaluation form at the end of the program.
