Some of the activities you can easily take outside of your classroom to another room, and even outside. Integrating a science activity is a great way for students to experiment first-hand what nature has in store for us. There’s a lot of activities that will bring your attention to your students. You can find several ideas here. http://www.teachhub.com/integrate-science-across-curriculum

What a great opportunity to be able to learn outdoors! You could investigate life cycles through insects or trees. First graders love to "adopt-a-tree" and observe it over the course of a year. You might also look into the "Budburst Buddies" version of the Project BudBurst citizen science project. You can set up a bird feeding station of the winter, study and build miniature habitats...so much to do!

An outdoor science activity is a great way to get all the children’s attention to be engaged and interactive. One activity that you could look into would be an “Autumn Sketchbook” where you will take your kids outside to look at the different leaves and trees during a particular season like fall. They can draw what they see or take small pieces from the trees and add them into their sketchbook. About every 2-3 weeks each child can add to their sketchbook and see the changes that are made from nature. They can then compare everything at the end of a season or at the end of the year. This activity will encourage your children to utilize their observation skills, develop aesthetic awareness, build artistic drawing abilities, and learn about the seasonal environment. You can also choose recycled materials for the book making portion. Thank you for the ideas! Children love to get outside and have hands-on activities to learn about the real things. Teaching science outside of the classroom will make their learning experiences so much more memorable.

Hands on acitivities are a must when teaching science. Taking a first grade class outside will be very hands on and there are many activities we can do. One activity that can be done is I spy. Children can have a sheet that will tell them to spy different things that we might find in our environment. Students love this and it puts a twist on the original I spy game. This could be related to a topic that the students are currently learning in the classroom. Learning experiences are the best and students will be able to remember the interactive activities and information learned during the lesson.
