Hi! My name is Mikayla Sottile and I am a student at Monmouth University. Right now, I am taking a course that is all about the methods of teaching science. I was wondering if anyone could give me some feedback/activities on how I can involve real life objects and scenarios of their everday life into the science lessons to make sure the students stay engaged and active within the lessons. I am looking to teach Early Childhood and I feel this is a great way to get to know the students more while allowing them to connect these ideas to things they are already familiar with.
The Early Years columns in the NSTA journal, Science and Children, are an excellent place to find hands-on and minds-on activities that use common (often familiar) materials to explore natural phenomena and do engineering design work.
