Hi Niria! It sounds like you have an understanding of the importance of connecting new learning with prior knowledge -- a key component of learning. I think you'll see that students bring a wide variety of backgrounds and prior knowledge into the classroom, and you can't assume that all of them have had a particular experience. An enjoyable part of teaching science is to provide experiences for and with the students -- growing plants, exploring the schoolyard, playing with marbles and ramps, looking at things with a magnifying glass or microscope, etc. and then connecting the concepts to be learned -- just what the 5E model does. --Mary B
