Science Education and Movies

Hello,

My name is Brooke and I am a pre-service teacher at Wartburg College. I'm currently in a science education class and recently we have discussed the use of movies in the classroom. I'm just wondering what current teachers see as best practice when it comes to the use of movies in the classroom, specifically science. How can we use them to the best of our and the movies abilities? When are they appropriate and not appropriate? I'm also wondering if there's certain examples of movies you've used in your class that have worked and how you've used them.

Hello Brooke,
I am also a Pre-service Teacher currently located in Florida International University. I believe using movies in the science classroom becomes a necessity from time to time. Movies and Documentaries can help students understand content and gain new perspectives. I plan to incorporate movies in my future classroom as a learning tool. Making sure the movie is appropriate by watching it first and making sure the dramatization of the film does not overshadow the important information. I have linked two examples below that give ideas of lesson plans and activities that go with appropriate science movies.
