I am writing a lesson plan on Cells for the 6th grade. Do you have any suggestions or resources that can help??
I start the unit by doing an activity similar to this and the kids get really interested in how the cells grow or shrink. It is a good way to review measurement skills - circumference and mass. Then, I like this activity as a formative assessment. Then I have my 7th graders make their own analogy: A cell is like a... kingdom, school, the NBA, etc. We discuss that the analogy is a conceptual model that helps someone remember and understand the way all the organelles work together.
