Does any one have any resources for teaching cellular respiration they'd like to share? I'm coming back from February vacation and all I have planned is modeling the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration using tooth picks and gum drops. I'm thinking as a final assessment I want the students to write an essay explaining the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Any ideas!?
What age level are you teaching this? I teach 11th grade biology so the amount of detail is heavy. One thing we do address it the formula that is commonly used to describe photosynthesis [6H2O + 6CO2 + Light Energy -> C6H12O6 + 6O2]. This equation shows the relationship between the two processes.
Hi Nicole - What age group are you teaching? Here is are some ideas from NSTA Science Scope articles (middle school): 1) Building Leaves & an Understanding of Photosynthesishttp://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/4/ss07_030_08_22 2) Seeing the Carbon Cycle http://learningcenter.nsta.org/product_detail.aspx?id=10.2505/4/ss06_029_04_14 Dorothy
Hi Nicole, I think an essay is great, but just a small piece of it, possibly give them a menu choice of different ways they can display their learning? Just some suggestions, students are always empowered by choice.
