The most basic answer to that, specifically in science, is to make sure that you are doing labs/activities/experiments as often as you can. When I work with starting teachers in my division, I always challenge them to start out with a new course doing a lab/experiment/activity one out of three classes, and by their third year teaching a science course, I challenge them to have half of their classes to be labs/experiments/activities.
Here's a link to the PDF that I always make mention of to the new science teachers in my division. It may have been written on a typewritter, and the diamgrams may be very two-dimensional, but you won't find a greater collection of relatively simple activities for science:
