How do I respond to questions that I do not know the answer to?
My rule with children is to be honest. Tell them 'I don't know, but we can find out together.' If the question is in regard to a lesson you're already doing, just make researching the answer part of the lesson. If it's off-topic, offer them a chance to look it up themselves if they finish their work early. The relationship with your students is built on trust and respect. If you 'lie' by guessing, your credibility suffers.
