Hi Kathleen,

I am currently taking an elementary science class for teachers right now and these past two months have been about learning what an inquiry based science lesson looks like. That beind said, we actually had to come up with our inquiry-based lesson and I did a lesson on Earth's layers and it was really effective because not only could students actually remember the layers of the Earth but they asked more questions of what they were interesting in learning and their engagement and interest was high than if I had taught a lesson straight from their textbooks. I read the article you posted and watched the video and both are convincing when it comes to actually evaluating the effectiveness of an inquiry-based lesson. Personally, I really do believe that inquiry-based lessons are key and effect, not because they engage students more but because they actually help students think more critically and make those deep science connections, as opposed to the teachers just giving away the answers and the students learning nothing. Especially because we had to read an article that mentions that there are four different types of inquiry lessons and I believe all four to be effective and in general just makes science more fun, which is also ideal. Those are my thoughts at least.
